Welcome back! Quick post on a fantastic book for any lover of hiking in Switzerland:

Die Hutten des Schweizer Alpen-Club/Les cabanes du Club Alpin Suisse/Le capanne del Club Alpino Svizzero/The Huts of the Swiss Alpine Club by Marco Volken and Remo Kundert

The book is a winner. With a page devoted to each of the 152 SAC (Swiss Alpine Club) huts, the book scores big points as a source of inspiration and ideas for hiking tours that incorporate alp hutten. The pictures are stunning, the inset maps are useful, and the short descriptions provide a tidbit of info on each hut.

Mirroring Switzerland’s multilingual tradition, the book provides all of the information in German, French, Italian, and English. A neat feature, especially for those trying to learn a second language.

A minor quibble - the book falls a bit short by only including a tiny bit of info on each hut. This is not a book that one would use to learn about the specific hiking routes to the huts or the particulars for the huts themselves. For this info, one would have to jump online and visit the SAC Club’s website. While the book provides inspiration for tour ideas and gives one a general overview of each of the SAC huts, more research is required to gather all of the necessary info about each hut.

I highly recommend this book for those seeking a beautiful addition to their library or to fill a spot on the coffee table. I frequently pick up the book to flip through the amazing photos. Another great use for the book is to keep track of the huts you’ve visited and the huts on your to-do list. The book would also make an excellent present for a lover of mountain photography or Swiss hiking.
